General History of the Caribbean, Volume 1Jalil Sued Badillo This six-volume project covers the historical experience of people and societies of the Caribbean region from the earliest times to the present.This volume covers the history of the origins of the earliest Caribbean people, and analyses their various political, social cultural and economical organizations over time, in and around the Caribbean region. It investigates the movement of Palaeoindians into the islands from the societies which developed in the Caribbean, the Greater Antilles and the Lesser Antilles. It then explores the indigenous societies at the time of the Spanish Conquest, the hierarchy of the chiefdom, and the development of slavery. By identifying with a legacy which goes beyond the 500 years of colonialism, life the Caribbean people can began to bind together as a region and claim a rich inheritance from the earliest forms of cultural expression that emerge in this volume. |
