About the author (2002)

Gold is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, a Fellow of the Royal Society, and an Emeritus Professor of Physics at Cornell University. He was for 20 years the Director of the Cornell Center for Radiophysics and Space Research.

Guthrie is Assistant Professor of Sociology at New York University.
