About the author (2007)

Jacob Abbott (1803 1879) was a prolific author, writing juvenile fiction, popular science, brief histories, biographies, and religious books for the general reader. After graduating from Bowdoin College in 1820 and becoming ordained in 1826, he founded a high school for girls in Boston and another in New York.
