Tales From The Woods
A collection of original poetry by poet, publisher, and maverick multimillionaire Felix Dennis is a thrilling, impassioned hymn to trees, and includes a spoken word audio CD Beautifully illustrated throughout with color-washed pen and ink illustrations, these 50 evocative poems celebrate trees and their part in the landscape. The poet's eye misses nothing?from the quality of light in early morning to the joyous exuberance of young birds learning to fly; from a hornbeam's delicate shades of green in spring to the "kamikaze" obduracy of ornamental maples refusing to shed their leaves in November gales. Here is "Mrs. Fox" making a home for her cubs in an abandoned cellar; a spider attacking a sea-green dragonfly caught in its web; an apple tree that has learned to "walk," and the terrible curse of a veteran tree marked for felling. Imbued with a deep love of the countryside, a warm, lyrical touch, and an often wry commentary to each poem, this collection will be greeted with delight by all lovers of the countryside.

I purchased this book on Saturday afternoon and by the end of my Sunday afternoon flight to Sweden had read it through completely - twice! I was absolutely blown away by how much I loved this book. The illustrations are gorgeous (apart from mixing Crows & Rooks up) and I adored the poems. If you love nature but don't think that 'poetry' is your thing I would suggest that you try this book and if poetry is your thing, then what are you waiting for? I must admit that I found it had to believe that the author is one of the richest men in England (but that obviously say's more about me than it does the author!). A wonderful book.
