I have lived in Korea, as well as Japan, China, and Hong Kong. This book is still important because it sheds light on current event and issues. For example, a name commonly applied by young Koreans to the current (2014) President Park Geun-hye is "The Daughter of a Dictator." The events leading to the current status of Korea as a kind of smaller version of Japan are usually presented as in unquestioning terms. This book uses real news events with close up (and verified) information to show the darker side of the ROK.
