User Review - Flag as inappropriateVery enjoyable book! A real love story. Not a romance; not sappy; really about love.
User Review - Flag as inappropriateThe exploration of WWII and the Japanese internment, father-son relationships and the triumph of love are great story lines that make this a 4-star book.
User Review - Flag as inappropriateThe editor that picked the title for this book did an excellent job. Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet tells the heart-wrenching story of a childhood romance that is cut short by World War II and the Japanese Internment Camps in the Northwestern United States.
In addition to weaving together moments of bittern and sweet, Ford does an excellent job in weaving together the past and the present. A little more than half of the story is a flashback to the protagonist's childhood, which helps to explain why he became the man that he is in the present.
Besides being a fascinating historical read, Ford makes readers recall memories of their own childhood relationships and revisit the question, "What if things had turned out differently?"
