The diary of privateer William Davidson, recording his experiences on the Russian ship, St. Dinnan, detailing the sinking of a Turkish ship and the massacre of its crew. Davidson's journal was printed on board the ship H.M.S. Caledonia in 1812. Sir Walter Scott considered writing a poem based on it, but after reading it, he considered the topic too horrible for poetry.
