As a ceramic historian I found Dr. Plot's observations and comments of considerably historical value. If his attention to detail and academic rigour, (for the C17) is as good in all other areas, then this book should be in everyone's library and feature as important in school history lessons.
I have an original copy of this extraordinary book by the learned Dr Plot a renown early English naturalist, the first Professor of Chemistry at the University of Oxford, whilst also the first keeper of the Ashmolean Museum. Plot shifted his focus towards archaeology in the 1686 publication of his second book, The Natural History of Staffordshire. The book contains a wonderful heraldic map, prints of the then principal houses of the county as well as prints of items that interested Dr Plot.
Sadly, the quality of the prints has caused many copies of this marvelous book to be broken up.
It is a book which will be interest all historians and collectors, but I recommend it to all.
