About the author (2006)

Andy Bennett is lecturer in sociology at the University of Surrey. He is the author of "Popular Music and Youth Culture: Music, Identity and Place" and "Cultures of Popular Music". With Kevin Dawe, he co-edited "Guitar Cultures.

BARRY SHANK is Assistant Professor of American Studies at the University of Kansas. He has performed in rock'n'roll bands in Kansas City, Los Angeles, Austin and Philadelphia.

Jason Toynbee is Lecturer in Media Studies in the Department of Sociology at the Open University.
