Becoming an Invitational Leader: A New Approach to Professional and Personal Success

Front Cover
Betty L. Siegel, Presidnet of Kennesaw State University, and William W. Purkey, Award-Winning Professor at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, have applied the valid principles of Invitational Theory to the enduring challenge of leader- ship. The result is a very engaging and practical approach to leadership. Becoming an Invitational Leader is significantly different from other books on leadership in that it offers a fresh and innovative model based on a single theore- tical framkework. This model shifts from emphasizing control and dominance to one that focuses on connectedness, cooperation, and communication. Based on sound philosophical and scientific assumptions, this model of leadership has been tested and successfully applied by leaders in business, medicine, education, and many other professions. Reviews by internationally-respected authorities on leadership have been universally positive, including: JOHN N. GARDENER: ?The beauty of the Purkey and Siegel model is that their vision of leadership can fit and enrich every type of human growth context: family, company, school, college, university, church, public, private, profit, non profit, personal, professional, secular, spiritual. This model certainly has something for everyone. At last a ?leadership? book I can understand, relate to, and put into action.? GAIL EVANS: ?Finally, a new, fresh look at the dynamics of leadership. Take up Siegel?s and Purkey?s invitation to experience your power in a non-confrontational environment.? --Author of Play Like a Man, Win Like a Woman PARKER J. PALMER: ?Invitational leadership is a concept whose time has come, a way of being congruent with the democracy?s deepest principles to say nothing of common sense. At a time in our history when both common sense and democratic values are under assault, we need this excellent book which explores a form of leading, and living, that can help us right what is wrong. Must be read and embraced by many.?--Author of The Courage to Teach and Let Your Life Speak
