May ev'ry deep-felt care of mine
Be trusted with the LORD. 6 Wait for his seasonable aid ;
And, tho' it tarry, wait :
But cannot come too late.
JEHOVAH ROPHI. I AM THE LORD THAT HEALETH THEE.--EI. XV. 1 HEAL us, EMMANUEL, here we are,
Waiting to feel thy touch ;
And, Saviour, we are such.
We faintly trust thy word ; .
Be that far from the LORD!
With trembling for relief;
“ O help my unbelief.”
And healing virtue stole, · Was answer'd, “Daughter, go in peace,
Thy faith hath made thee whole."
s Conceal'd amidst the gath'ring throng,
She would have shunn'd thy view :
Had strong misgivings too. 6 Like her, with hopes and fears we come,
To touch thee if we may ;
Send none unheal'd away.
I BY whom was David' taught
To aim the dreadful blow,
And laid the Gittite low?
But chose a pebble from the brook. 2 'Twas Israel's God and King,
Who sent him to the fight,
And skill to aim aright.
3.Who orderd Gideon forth,
To storm th' invader's camp*.
* Judges, vii. 20.
With arms of little worth,
A pitcher and a lamp ?
When with a single word,
My trust is in the LORD,
Fearless of all that could oppose. 5 But unbelief, self-will,
Self-righteousness and pride, How often do they steal
My weapon from my side !
Will help his servant to the end.
THE LORD SEND PEACE.--Judges, vi. 24.
Before the Father's face I stand. 2 To reconcile offending man,
Made Justice drop her angry rod;
3 No drop remains of all the curse,
For wretches who deserv'd the whole ;
The guilty, but returning soul. 4 Peace by such means so dearly bought,
What rebel could have hop'd to see ? Peace, by his injur'd Sov'reign wrought,
His Sov’reign fastned to the tree. 5 Now, Lord, thy feeble worm prepare !
For strife with earth and hell begins ;
They hate the soul that hates his sins. 6 Let them in horrid league agree !
They may assault, they may distress;
Or rais'd the fruitful hills ;
And Wisdom is my name.
He spread the skies abroad ;
And swath'd about the swelling
And mine, the sons of men.
Thy glory and thy grace,
And dy'd for us in love.
With creatures such as we !
VANITY OF THE WORLD.
Your hoard will do your soul no good ;
Gold is a blessing only lent, .. Repaid by giving others food.
