this little work will exercise their utmost lenity, and look with a favourable eye on the numerous defects which the authoress is conscious it contains.

Her youth and inexperience may perhaps plead some excuse for its errors; she is an orphan, only eighteen, and this is the first production she has ever submitted to the clemency of the public.

She fears of being accused of too much presumption in offering her trifling ideas to the world, but she is encouraged by the characteristic candour and indulgence of the generality of readers towards juvenile authoresses.
