THE JOYS OF SOCIAL LIFE.

WHAT give the mind a varied zest?

The troubled bosom balmy rest?

The heart relief that's woe oppress'd ?

The joys of social life.

Within the soft domestick scene,

The greeting smile, the look serene,
Revive me more than fields of green :

Kind joys of social life.

The stranger, wand'ring, forc'd to roam,

Far distant from his native home,

With pleasure meets in foreign dome,

The joys of social life.

All vile contention driven far,

And every thought repell'd with care,

That may another's peace impair

Sweet joys of social life../

Ah give me then a tender friend,

With whom each pain and fear shall end,

For thus do sweetly, sweetly, tend

The joys of social life.

PRAISE THE LORD.

JEHOVAH reigns, let Heav'n rejoice,

Let Earth her anthems bring;

To him, in one continued voice,

Let all the nations sing.

He girds, with might, with majesty,

Himself and rides sublime

The winds roar high at his command,

Or softly breathe along.

Light'nings and billows know his word, And storms that sweeping pour :

Creation calls him "glorious LORD,"

And Chaos owns his pow'r.

Before him move the system'd orbs,

Once moulded by his hand;

The myriad Suns, the myriad globes,

Roll round at his command.

His fiat shakes the length'ning spheres,

The vast obeys his word,

Times flowing on in stedfast years.

Stop-at the voice of GOD!

He look'd-dark Chaos gather'd form !--

He spake it roll'd in light

And where confusion hurled her storms,

Is order, beautious, bright.

He sits within himself enthron'd,

Nor sees one rival near :

He reigns the LORD the GoD alone,

Nor knows the thought of fear.

Thro' all immensity he moves,

Observing every part,

But chiefly marks the home he loves

The humble, contrite heart.

OUR DEAR REDEEMER.

FLOW on, strains of grateful joy!

Halleluiahs, glide along!

Praising is my sweet employ,

Jesus' name exalts my song!

Jesus, from the realms of light,

Came to save a ruin'd race:

Left the mansions beaming bright,

Left a Father's fond embrace.

See him patiently descend!

See him in a manger laid!

He who was salvation's friend!

He on whom our hopes are staid !

Thro' a course of infant years,

Humbly, duteously, he liv'd

-He who dissipates our fears!
He who life and vict❜ry gives!
