The following promotions, dated the 18th inst, consequent on the death, on the 17th inst., of Admiral of the Blue Thomas Brown, have this day taken place:—

Vice-Admiral of the Red the Honourable Sir Anthony Maitland, K.C.B., K.C.M.G., to be Admiral of the Blue.

Vice-Admiral of the White the Hon. Sir Fleetwood Broughton Reynolds Pellew, C.B., K.C.H., to be ViceAdmiral of the Red.

Vice-Admiral of the Blue Alexander Renton Sharpe, C.B., to be Vice-Admiral of the White.

Rear-Admiral of the Red Edward Collier, C.B., to be Vice-Admiral of the Blue.

Corps of Royal Marines.—The following promotions have taken place, under Her Majesty's Order in Council of the 13th of September, 1854, in consequence of the death of General George Beatty, on the fixed establishment of General Officers of the Royal Marines, viz.:—Lieut.-General Charles Menzies, K.H., to be General; MajorGeneral Thomas Wearing to be Lieutenant-General; Colonel Commander and Deputy Adjutant-General Samuel Robert Wesley to be Major-General.
