THIS preparatory office for the HOLY COMMUNION has been framed with great care, and with the aid of precious materials, drawn, for the most part, from rare and curious sources. Some of these devotions were taken substantially from a work, which, so far back as the reign of Queen Anne, had passed through twenty-one editions, and which since that time, there is reason to believe, has never been reprinted; others probably have an origin still more remote. It will accordingly be seen that, in their depth of feeling, their chastened fervor, their elevation of thought and expression, they breathe throughout, the spirit of the divines and saints of old. 332066 |
