The Epistle.' 2 Cor. iii. 4. UCH trust have we through Christ to God-ward:

Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God; who also hath made us able ministers of the New Testament; not of the letter, but of the Spirit: for the letter killeth, but the Spirit giveth life. But if the ministration of death, written and engraven in stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not stedfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away: how shall not the ministration of the Spirit be raiher glorious ? For if the ministration of condemnation be glory, much more doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory.

The Gospel. St. Mark vii. 31. ESUS departing from the coasts of Tyre and Sidon

came unto the sea of Galilee, through the midst of the coast of Decapolis. And they bring unto him one that was deaf, and had an impediment in his speech; and they beseech him to put his hand upon him. And he took him aside from the multitude, and put his fingers into his ears, and he spit, and touched his tongue; and looking up to heaven, he fighed, and faith unto him, Ephphatha, that is, Be opened. And straightway his ears were opened, and the string of his tongue was loosed, and he spake plain. And he charged them that they should tell no man: but the more he charged them, so much the more a great deal they published it; and were beyond measure astonished, saying, He hath done all things well: he maketh both the deaf to hear, and the dumb to speak.

The Epistle. Gal. iii. 16.
O Abraham and his feed were the promises made.

He saith nor, and to seeds, as of many; but as of one, and to thy feed, which is Christ. And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effc&t. For if the inheritance be of the law, it is no more of promise: but God gave it to Abraham by promise. Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the feed should come, to whom the promife was made; and it was ordained by angels in the band of a mediator. Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one. Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily, righteousneks should have been by the law. But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.

tain man went down from Jerufalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead. And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side. But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him, and went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him. And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said upto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again I will repay thee. Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves? And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise.

The Collect.

The Epistle. Gal. v. 16. I ,

the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusteth against the Jericho] The scene of this parable is laid with great propriety in the road from Jerusalem to Jericho, which was mountainous, and very conve nient for robbers. One pass is still called the Mountain of Blood, or the bloody way, a name probably acquired from the murders of passengers. Sharu's Travels.

Samaritan] The Jews and Samaritans bore a religious hatred to each other. John iv. 9; viii. 48.

Two-pence] Two denarii; about fourteen pence.

Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law. Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, feditions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they who do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh, with the affections and lufts.

The Gospel. St. Luke xvii. 11.
ND it came to pass, as Jesus went to Jerusalem, that

he paffed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee. And as he entered into a certain village, there met him ten, men that were lepers, who stood afar off. And they lifted their voices, and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us. And when he saw them, he said unto them, Go thew yourselves unto the priests. And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed. And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God, and fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan. And Jesus answering said, Were there not, ten' cleansed? bur where are the nine? There are not found that returned to give glory to God, fave this stranger. And he said 'unto him, Arise, go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole.

E see how large a letter I have written unto you

with mine own hand. As many as desire to make a fair shew in the flelli, they constrain you to be circumcised; only left they should suffer persecution for the cross of Christ. For neither they themselves who are circumsed keep the law; but defire to have you circumcised, that they may glory in your ferh. But God forbid that I should glory, fave in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ

, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world. For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature. And as many as walk according to this rule, peace be on them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of God. From henceforth let no man trouble me, for I bear in my body the marks of the Lord Jesus. Brethren, the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your Spirit. Amen.

The Gospel.. St. Matt. vi. 24.
O man can serve two masters: for either he will hate

the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot ferve God and Mammon. Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye mall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on: Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air: for they fow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father fecdeth them. Are ye not much better than they? Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his fiature? And why take ye thought for raiment?
