Her Majesty's steam-frigate Leopard, off Kertch, Feb. 25.

Sir, I have the honour to inform you that on the 22nd inst., His Imperial French Majesty's ship Fulton having gone to Kaffa to reconnoitre, I proceeded towards Anapa in Her Majesty's ship Leopard, but on passing the Boghaz of the Kouban Lake we observed numbers of troops crossing the passage in boats from Anapa to Taman, so I ran in and anchored off the passage in 4 fathoms. The troops had landed, but we opened fire on them, and drove them to the hills. I sent a division of boats, under Lieutennant Graham, to examine the buildings on the points, which proved to be guardhouses, barracks, storehouses, and stables, some of which were burnt, but a heavy snowstorm coming on, I recalled the boats. Lieutanant Graham reporting he had seen some guns and other military stores, which he had not time to destroy, and which the enemy were transporting from Anapa to Kertch, I again proceeded there on the 24th inst., in company with the Fulton. A few rounds of shot and shell drove the Cossacks and other troops, 400 or 500 in number, to the hills; when the boats under Lieutenant Graham landed, and M. Lebris, in the Fulton, took up a position to the north-west, to check the advance of the enemy, who soon after brought some field batteries on the hills, and opened a heavy fire of shot and shell upon the ships and boats. The very accurate fire of the Fulton drove them from two positions, and the Leopard's shell from a third, after which they retreated behind the hills. After three hours' work the boats returned, having captured and destroyed ten new and handsome 50-cwt. 6-inch guns and burnt seven large boats, two ranges of barracks and buildings, also a quantity of military stores and provisions. The Fulton received one shot in her hull, but I am happy to say no casualties occurred. The loss of the enemy must have been considerable.-I have, &c.,

4th February-Leave of absence is granted, at the recommendation of a medical board, to Major O. At the recommendation of a Board of Officers the Commander of the Forces authorizes the following increase in the allowance of fuel and light to the troops at Scutari :-The ration of wood to be 4 lbs., charcoal, 1 lb., tallow candles, 3 ozs.

Veterinary Surgeon Jex, appointed to the 1st Life Guards, will proceed to England by the earliest opportunity. Officers in temporary command of Brigades are to receive pay and allowances of a Colonel on the Staff while so employed.

Lieutenant J. Baillie, Royal Horse Guards, will act temporarily as extra Aide-de-Camp to Major-General Lord Rokeby, commanding the Brigade of Guards. Referring to General Order No. 2, 5th inst., Brevet LieutenantColonel Jefferys, 88th Regiment, will proceed to England as Supernumerary, to join the Depôt, instead of Major Norton.

Leave of absence is granted to Brevet Major Hoste, R.A., till 15th of April, to proceed to England on urgent private affairs; and to Captain R. Dillon, 30th Regiment, at the recommendation of a medical board, for the recovery of his health. Leave of absence is granted to the following Officers to proceed to Scutari, at the recommendation of medical boards, for the recovery of their health, to the 10th of March-Lieutenants E. Townshend, 46th Regiment; W. Harvey, 9th Regiment; W. Biddle, 28th Regiment; T. Ki kpatrick, 28th Regiment; Staff Assistant-Surgeon W. Marshall, and Assistant-Surgeon R. Jackson, 90th Regiment.

ROYAL VISIT TO THE CHATHAM HOSPITALS.-On the 3rd ult., Her Majesty the Queen, accompanied by Prince Albert, the Duke of Cambridge, the Prince of Wales, and Prince Alfied, paid a visit to the Fort Pitt and Brompton Hospitals at Chatham. The object of the visit was to evince the sympathy of the Royal family with those sick and wounded Soldiers from the Army in the East who, having been sent home for the benefit of their health, have been received into these establishments. The Royal visitors, attended by the Military authorities of Chatham and the Medical Officers of the two hospitals, made the round of all the wards except those containing fever cases. Her Majesty addressed kind inquiries to many of the wounded men, those who were well enough to be up receiving her at the foot of their respective cots with cards in their hands, specifying the nature of their wounds, and in what action received.
