Mr. Arber, in his Introduction to the Martin Marprelate Controversy, 1879, p. 51, describes him as Laud's right-hand man for repressing the liberty of the press, and as having made in 1635 inquiries into the history of licensing books. He speaks of him as Sir John Lamb.
