2 Is thy burden'd spirit
Agonized for sin?
Think of Jesu's merit,

He can make thee clean;
Think of Calvary's mountain,
Where his blood was spilt;
In that precious fountain
Wash away thy guilt.

AUGHTER of Zion, awake from thy sad

DA

ness,

[more; Awake, for thy foes shall oppress thee no Bright o'er the hills dawns the day-star of glad

ness,

Arise, for the night of thy sorrow is o'er; Daughter of Zion, awake from thy sadness, Awake! for thy foes shall oppress thee no

more.

2 Daughter of Zion, the power that hath saved thee,

[be;

Extoll'd with the harp and the timbrel should Shout! for the foe is destroyed that enslaved thee,

The oppressor is vanquish'd, and Zion is free; Daughter of Zion, awake from thy sadness, Awake! for thy foes shall oppress thee no

more.

PRAYER is the soul's sincere desire

Uttered or unexpress'd,

The motion of a hidden fire,

That trembles in the breast.

2 Prayer is the burden of a sigh,
The falling of a tear;

The upward glancing of an eye,
When none but God is near.

3 Prayer is the simplest form of speech
That infant lips can try,

Prayer, the sublimest strains that reach
The Majesty on high.

4 Prayer is the Christian's vital breath,
The Christian's native air;

His watchword in the hour of death;
He enters heaven with prayer!

HE

[blocks in formation]

EAVENLY Father! thou hast guided
All the way our feet have trod;

Every good has been provided

By our kind and gracious God.

2 We would praise thee, deign to hear us; Warm our hearts, accept our praise; Be thy Spirit ever near us,

Keep us in thy holy ways!

3 Be our guardian, shed thy blessing
O'er us as we pass along;
So thy love and peace possessing,
We may raise thee many a song.
4 Sweet is praise; it speaks enjoyment,
While on earth, of holy love,
And it forms the blest employment
Of the heavenly hosts above.

HILDREN, of old, hosannas sung
To praise the Saviour's name;
We too would join our youthful song

To celebrate his fame.

2 We bless the Lord for all his gifts;
For life, for food, and friends:
We bless him for the word of life,
The choicest gift he sends.

3 We bless his name, that we are taught
To keep his sacred day;

And that we thus are brought to join
With those who praise and pray.

4 O may we prize these favours well,
Nor let them be in vain ;

Teach babes and sucklings, Lord, to raise
Their songs to thee again.

HYMN 100.

YOME, let us join the hosts above,

Now, in our youngest days;

Remember our Creator's love,
And sing our Father's praise.

2 His Majesty will not despise
The day of feeble things;

Grateful the songs of children rise,
And praise the King of kings.

3 He loves to be remembered thus,
And honoured for his grace;
Out of the mouths of babes, like us,
His wisdom perfects praise.

4 Glory to God, and praise, and power
Honour and thanks be given;

Children and cherubim adore
The Lord of earth and heaven,

HYMN 101.

AR, far o'er hill and

dale,

Green woods are changing,

Autumn, her many hues

Slowly arranging;

And o'er the smiling land,
Fruits, as the countless sand,
God pours, from open hand,
With love unchanging.

2 Life has its seasons, too,
Blooming and fading-
We're in its spring-time now,
Flowery paths treading.
Teachers the good seed sow-
Autumn will our fruit show--

Oh! pray that it may grow,
Unto heaven leading.

REAT Father of all, thy mercy display, Assist us to praise, assist us to pray; Assist to adore thee, and tell of thy fame, And loud, in hosannas, thy goodness proclaim.

2 Thy love to our race surpasses all thought; Though captives and slaves, with blood we are bought,

The blood of our Saviour who came from above, And died to redeem us in mercy and love.

3 Then let us declare, to sinners around,
What riches of grace in Jesus are found;
And publish salvation, and join to proclaim
Our loudest hosannas to God and the Lamb.

COME

[blocks in formation]

YOME, happy children, come and raise
Your voice with one accord;
Come, sing the cheerful song of praise,
And bless your Saviour Lord.

2 Sing of the wonders of his love;
And praise and glory give

To Him, who left his throne above,
And died, that you might live.
3 Sing of the wonders of his power,
Who, with his own right arm,
Upholds and keeps you every hour,
And shields your souls from harm.
4 Sing of the wonders of his name,
And Jesus Christ adore;

Him for your Lord and God proclaim,
And praise him evermore.

REAT God, our infant voices raise,

And tune our lips and hearts with praise,

Thy goodness to adore;

Our life, our health, our every friend,
From thee arose, on thee depend,

Kind Father of the poor.

2 Stretch o'er our heads thy guardian wings,
Secure the weak, O King of kings!
The stranger's refuge be;

And, as thy hand conducts our youth,
Inspire our tender minds with truth-
The truth that leads to thee.

ITHO

HYMN 105.

THOU dear Redeemer, dying Lamb!
We love to hear of thee;

No music's like thy charming name,
Nor half so sweet can be.
