Excerpt: ... us all, accompanied by the organ; then to hear the prayer; and see us all kneeling round, even to Mr. A.'s youngest child, between two and three years of age, whose little head hardly reaches the seat of the chair, when kneeling; and, at night, to see us all assembled again, and, parting for the night, with a kiss and a kind goodnight; you would not wonder that we are a happy family. "Still there is no place like home; but, next to home, this is the place for me. If I were left without friends or a home, there is no place where I would come sooner than here. Every evening, after tea, for an hour before study hours, we go to Mr. A.'s study, and he play's French games with us, to amuse and instruct us, and converses on different subjects with us. Mr. A.'s study is the pleasantest place in the house, I think. When we go there, we always hear something new and interesting. I have seen many parts of the city since I have been here, and shall see, it seems to me, nearly all of it, before I return home. Mr. A. thinks it very important that we should take exercise, and so takes us out every afternoon. The other day I took a walk down Broadway, with Mr. and Mrs. A. and one of the young ladies. We went into several bookstores, &c, and into the "American Art Union" exhibition rooms, which are filled with beautiful paintings of all descriptions, which I enjoyed seeing very much. A day or two ago I went to see a ridingschool, which one of our young ladies attends, in company with Mr. A. and several others of the family. Then we went down to the Battery, a beautiful place; and, coming home, as it was rather a long distance to walk both ways, we jumped into an omnibus, and rode up.
