I have not read all the way through this book; in fact, I only stumbled upon it in Google Books while doing using Google to research some U.S. Military pins I recently bought at a local second hand store. The pins were packaged in a clear plastic bag and labeled, "Military Pins" with no other explanations. One of them happened to have the motto, "FOR THE COMMANDER" across the bottom of it, and so after being unable to locate this pin or any other in databases of current United States military pins, I did a search on the motto and Viola! I came across this book and found the origin of at least one of the pins, complete with explanation of symbolism and a brief history of the unit.
