CHARGE DELIVERED At his Primary Uisitation, IN ST. PATRICK'S CATHEDRAL, DUBLIN, On Thursday the 24th of October, 1822: BY WILLIAM MAGEE, D.D. F.R.S. M.R.L.A. &c. ARCHBISHOP OF DUBLIN. SECOND EDITION. LONDON: PRINTED FOR T. CADELL, IN THE STRAND. 13-378244 TO THE REVEREND THE CLERGY OF THE ARCHDIOCESE OF DUBLIN AND DIOCESE OF GLANDELAGH, THIS CHARGE, PUBLISHED AT THEIR UNANIMOUS REQUEST, IS INSCRIBED, BY THEIR AFFECTIONATE BROTHER AND FAITHFUL FRIEND, W. DUBLIN. A CHARGE, &c. O address the assembly which now surrounds me for the first time, upon objects so important as those for which it is convened, and which press with not a greater weight of responsibility on the members of this assembly than upon him by whom they are addressed, must be, at all seasons, a matter of serious and awful consideration. But, at the present, when the Established Clergy of this Land are beset with difficulties and perils of more than common magnitude; when, not only the interests of our order, but those of religion itself are endangered; when, from the abounding of iniquity, the love of many has waxed cold; when more than usual hostility prevails against our Zion; and even our very good is too often evil spoken of;-it is impossible to enter upon the reflections, which belong to the nature and occasion of our meeting, without feelings of anxious and painful solicitude. |
