Author Peter Freestone was Freddie Mercury's personal assistant for the last 12 years of his life. He lived with Mercury in London, Munich and New York, and was with him when he died. This is the most intimate account of Freddie Mercury's life ever written, by an author who was Freddie's 'chief cook and bottle washer, waiter...secretary and agony aunt.'From the famous names-including Elton John, Kenny Everett, Elizabeth Taylor and Rod Stewart-to the shadowy army of lovers and hangers-on, Peter Freestone saw them all play their part in the tragic-comedy that was Freddie Mercury's outrageous life. 'The myth of Mercury's debauched private life is well and truly debunked by the man who was there throughout the toothsome showman's later years in this affectionate portrait...'Q MAGAZINE

I personally LOVED this book. It was by the man who knew him best, and so there is a lot he dishes about freddie's personal life. I learned a lot more about Freddie and i did sort of feel like a fly on the wall. Freestone writes about Freddie's relationships, his homes, his favorite things, and of course his last years. He goes very in depth with the last hours of his life and he gives very sad and heartbreaking details of the very last minutes. He also writes about certain songs and music videos and tours, and it feels sort of like a behind the scenes. Not only is the writing and the facts that he gives very interesting, but the 4 or 5 pages of photos in the middle are very rare and funny to look at. It definitly feels like you are in his life. I would recommend this book to anyone.
Along with giving us an insight into our adored Freddie Mercury this wonderful book clearly demonstra tes who kind, gentle, honest and wonderful man Mr. Freestone is. I think Freddie was very lucky in his life - a magnificent voice, songwriting ability, artist, lover of beauty, lover of his friends and fans....and he was blessed with three friends who so diligently took care of him in the years they spent with him Mr. Freestone was with him longer than the others and wrote this gracious book - he ended the book with such grace. The other two caregivers are no longer with us....and we should cherish Peter for the wonderful human being he is....
