BE IT REMEMBERED, That on the twenty-fourth day of June, in the forty-first year of the Independence of the United States of America, Kirk & Mercein, of the said District, have deposited in this Office the title of a Book, the right whereof they claim as Proprietors, in the words following, to wit: "The Life of Robert Fulton, by his friend Cadwallader D. Colden; read before the Literary and Philosophical Society of New-York: comprising some Account of the Invention, Progress, and Establishment of Steam-Boats; of Improvements in the Construction and Navigation of Canals, and other objects of public utility: with an Appendix." In conformity to the Act of the Congress of the United States, entitled "An Act for the encouragement of Learning, by securing the copies of Maps, Charts and Books to the Authors and Proprietors of such copies, during the time therein mentioned." And also to an Act, entitled " an Act, supplementary to an Act, entitled an Act for the encouragement of Learning, by securing the copies of Maps, Charts and Books to the Authors and Proprietors of such copies, during the times therein mentioned, and extending the benefits thereof to the arts of designing, engraving, and etching historical and other prints." At a Meeting of the Literary and Philosophical Society of New-York, held at their Hall, in the New-York Institution, on Thursday Evening, the 12th of March, 1817: Resolved, That the thanks of the Society be presented to Cadwallader D. Colden, Esq. for the Biographical Memoir of Robert Fulton, Esq. deceased, delivered by him before this Society; and that Dr. Samuel L. Mitchill, the Rev. Dr. Alexander M'Leod, and Mr. John Pintard, be a Committee to present this Resolution, and to request the favour of a copy of the Memoir for publication.
