four hundred forty five thousand one hundred feventy_feven Pounds feven Shillings and Four pence; upon the faid Duties payable upon Vellum, Parchment and Paper two hundred twenty four thousand one hundred and fourteen Pounds feven Shillings Eight pence Halfpenny; upon the faid Duties charged upon Marriages, Births, Burials, Batchelors and Widowers, fix hundred forty and eight thoufand Pounds; and upon the faid continued Impofitions payable for Wine, Vinegar, Tobacco, Eaft India Goods, and other Merchandizes imported, one hundred forty fix thousand one hundred eighty one Pounds nineteen Shillings and Five pence Halfpenny; and on the faid yearly Sum of three hundred thousand Pounds out of the Subfidy of Tunnage and Poundage, one hundred forty two thousand fix hundred fixty fix Pounds feven Shillings Three pence and three Farthings, amounting in the whole to the Sum of five millions one hundred and fixty thousand four hundred fifty and nine Pounds, fourteen Shillings Nine pence one Farthing: We Your Majefty's moft dutiful and loyal Subjects, the Commons of England, in Parliament affembled, having duly weighed and con dered the Premiffes, and being defirous to raife fuch Aids and Supplies, and to ufe fuch proper Methods, as may make good the faid Deficiencies, and raife the publick Credit, have cheerfully and unanimoufly given and granted unto Your Majesty the Supplies, Impofitions and other Duties hereinafter mentioned, for and during the refpective Terms hereafter expreffed, and do befeech Your Majefty to accept thereof, and that it may be enacted, and be it enacted by the King's Moft Excellent Majefty, by and with the Advice and Confent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this prefent Parliament affembled, and by the Authority of the fame, That the Subfidy of Tunnage and Poundage, and other Sums of Money payable upon Merchandizes exported and imported, which were given and granted unto His late Majefty King Charles the Second for his Life, by an Act of Parliament made in the twelfth Year of His Reign, intituled, A Sulfidy granted 12 Car. 2. c. 4. to the King of Tunnage and Poundage, and other Sums of Money payable upon Merchandizes exported and imported, and which by an Act of Parliament made in the fixth Year of His Majefty's Reign, 6&7 W. 3. c. 7. were granted and continued for the Term of five Years, to com- Tunnage and mence on the fix and twentieth Day of December, One thousand nued, and fix hundred ninety four, fhall be continued to His Majefty, from 12 Car. 2. c. 4. the Expiration of the faid Term of five Years, until the fift to be in Force, Day of Auguft, which fhall be in the Year of our Lord One till 1 Aug. 1706. thousand feven hundred and fix, and no longer; and that the faid Act made in the twelfth Year of the Reign of King Charles the Second, and every Article, Rule and Clause therein mentioned, and alfo an Order of the Commons in Parliament affembled, made in purfuance of the Rules and Orders annexed to the aforefaid Act, for fettling of Officers Fees, dated the seventeenth Day of May One thousand fix hundred fixty two, and figned by Sir Edward Turner, then Speaker, fhall be of full Force and Effect, to all Intents and Purposes, until the said firft Day of Auguft One thousand seven hundred and fix, as fully, and in like Manner, as if the fame were particularly and at large recited and fet down in the Body of this A&. VI. Provided always, and be it enacted and declared by the Authority aforefaid, That the faid Duty upon Tobacco, which cording to 7 & 8 fhall be imported during the Term hereby granted, fhall be fecured, collected, raifed, levied, answered and paid to His Majefty, in fuch Method, and with fuch Discount and Allowances, and according to fuch Rules and Directions, as are mentioned, referred to or prefcribed, as to the Duties or Impofitions upon Tobacco, in and by the faid Act made in the Parliament holden in the feventh and eighth Years of His Majefty's Reign intituled, An Ad for continuing feveral Duties granted by former Acts upon Wine and Vinegar, and upon Tobacco and Eaft India Goods and other Merchandizes imported, for carrying on the War against France and not otherwife.

X. And whereas the Scarcity and Dearnefs of Iron in this Kingdom have of late much discouraged the Manufactures thereof, in which great Numbers of the Poor are employed;" Be it therefore further provided and enacted by the Authority aforefaid, That it fhall and may be lawful to import into this Kingdom from Ireland, any Bar Iron unwrought, and Iron flit or hammered into Rods (other than Swedish or other foreign Iron) difcharged of the Impofitions and Duties laid upon the fame by this or the faid Act for granting the faid additional Impofitions; any Thing in this or the faid Act contained to the contrary notwithstanding.

XI. Provided alfo, That in all Cafes where any other Provision or Alteration is made, by any Act or Acts of Parliament now in being, in or about any other Matter or Thing contained in the faid Act of Parliament for the Impofitions laft mentioned, fuch other Provifions or Alterations fhall be obferved during the Continuance of the Term hereby granted in the fame Impofitions; any Thing herein contained to the contrary notwithstanding. XIII. Provided always, and it is hereby further enacted, That Provifo. in all Cafes where any further or other Provifion, or any Alteration, is made by any other Act or Acts of Parliament now in being, in relation to the faid Duties upon Vellum, Parchment and Paper, fuch other Provifions or Alterations fhall be obferved and complied with during the Continuance of the Term hereby granted in the fame Duties; any Thing herein contained to the contrary notwithstanding.

XVI. And for the better afcertaining and collecting the faid The King may feveral Rates and Duties upon Marriages, Births and Burials, appoint Officers. and upon Batchelors and Widowers, and the faid feveral Rates and Duties upon Houses; Be it enacted, That it shall and may be lawful to and for His Majefty, His Heirs and Succeffors, from and after the five and twentieth Day of March One thousand fix hundred ninety and feven, from Time to Time to give Directions for conftituting and appointing fuch Perfon or Perfons as His Majefty, His Heirs and Succeffors, fhall think meet, to be the Officer or Officers for the Survey and Infpection of the Rates and Duties arifing upon Marriages, Births and Burials, and upon Batchelors and Widowers, and of the Register or Registers of all fuch Marriages, Births and Burials, within the feveral Counties of England, Dominion of Wales, and Town of Berwick upon Tweed, and alfo of the Duties arifing upon Houfes within the fame, and for viewing and numbring the feveral Windows in each Houfe (not already affeffed at the Rate of ten Shillings) and for the infpecting and examining the Affeffments or Certificates thereof made and to be made from Time to Time in purfuance of the faid Acts for granting the said Rates or Duties, or any other Thing belonging to the fame: Which Officers, or any of them, Officers to fufhall have full Power to examine and fupervife the Regifter and pervife the Re Registers of all Marriages, Births and Burials, and of the Affeff- gifters of Marments of the fame, and the Affeffments of the Windows rated in riages, &c. every Parish and Place, as aforefaid, and to take Copy or Copies or Extracts of fuch Regifter and Affeffments, and at feasonable Times, with a Conftable, Headborough, Tythingman or other Officers of the refpective Parishes or Places within the feveral Counties of England, Dominion of Wales and Town of Berwick upon Tweed, who are hereby required to affift accordingly, to view and examine whether there be any more Windows (in Houfes not rated ten Shillings) than is certified and rated in fuch Affeffment, and fhall have Liberty to make like View, Examination and Infpection, twice in the Year at leaft, during the Continuance of the faid feveral Duties by this or the faid former Acts for granting the fame; and if upon or after fuch View or Examination and Infpection of the Regifters and Affeffments, as aforefaid, fuch

Officer or Officers fhall find that any Perfon or Premifes are underrated, or not rated and charged as by the faid Acts or either of them are directed and appointed, fuch Officer or Officers fhall certify the fame to the Commiflioners, or any two or more of them, within the Divifion, Hundred, Parifh or Place wherein fuch Neglect or Failure fhall happen to be, which faid Commiffioners, or any two or more of them, fhall, and are hereby required to caufe fuch Rate or Rates to be fet upon every fuch Perfon and Premifes, as fhall be according to the true Intent and Meaning of the faid Acts, and either of them. [See Note to Section 15.]

XVII. And whereas Batchelors and Widowers that are Servants in Hufbandry, by their frequent Removals are returned as Fugitives, and efcape the Payment of the Duties to which they are hable by the faid Act;' Be it further enacted, That the Duty or Duties wherewith fuch Servant or Servants fhall be charged, hall from Time to Time be paid by the Master or Mistress of fuch Servant, and be deducted out of his, her or their Wages; any Thing in the faid Act contained to the contrary notwithstanding.

XVIII. And be it alfo enacted and declared, That where any by two Families. Houfe fhall be inhabited by two or more Families, fuch House fhall nevertheless be fubject to, and fhall in like Manner pay the Rates and Duties charged on Houses by the faid Act, as if such House were inhabited by one Family only.

Edifices in Inns of Court, &c. how to pay for Windows.

XIX. And be it alfo enacted and declared by the Authority. aforefaid, That every Edifice in any of the Inns of Court of Chancery, being feverally in the Tenure or Occupation of any Perfon or Perfons, thall be fubject to the fame Rates and Duties for the Number of Windows therein, as if it were an entire Houfe; and every House whereof the Keeping only is committed or left to the Care or Charge of any Perfon or Servant, who Houfe commit- doth not pay to the Church and Poor, fhall be fubject to the like ted to a Servant. Rates and Duties for the Windows therein, as if it were inhabited by the Occupier or by a Tenant, and to be paid by the refpective Occupiers or Tenants of the fame. [See Note to Section 15.]

XXIII. And for the better encouraging the faid Subfcriptions to be made; Be it further enacted by the Authority aforefaid, That from and after the faid fecond Day of April it shall and may be lawful to and for all and every Perfon or Perfons, Natives or Foreigners, Bodies Politick and Corporate, by and for themfelves, or any of them, or by themselves or any of them in Truft any other Perfon or Perfons, Bodies Politick or Corporate, or any of them, freely to fubfcribe any Sum or Sums of Money. into the Capital and Principal Stock of the faid prefent Governor

and Company, in order to the augmenting and enlarging thereof as aforefaid; which faid Subfcriptions at the refpective Times Times, Propor of making the fame, fhall be anfwered and made good by the tious and Modes refpective Subfcribers thereof to the faid Capital and Principal Subferiptions to Stock of the faid prefent Governor and Company, in the Man- be made good. ner and Proportion following; (that is to fay) four fifth Parts of each refpective and particular Subfcription (the Value of the faid whole Subfcriptions into five equal Parts being divided) fhall be anfwered and made good to the faid Capital and Principal Stock of the faid prefent Governor and Company, by afligning to them the Principal and Intereft whereunto fuch Subfcribers refpectively fhall be then really intitled by Tallies of Loan and Orders of Repayment, or by Tallies of Pro or Affignment, for Monies which were lent or advanced, or are or shall be charged as aforefaid, upon fome of the Aids, Supplies, Revenues, Impofitions or other Funds hereinafter mentioned, and by delivering up at the fame Time to the faid Governor and Company, the Tallies and Orders fo affigned; that is to fay, upon the faid first Aid of four Shillings in the Pound, the faid third Aid of four Shillings in the Pound, the faid fourth Aid of four Shillings in the Pound, the faid quarterly Poll, the faid three-fourth Parts of the Cuftoms, the faid Act for continuing the Duties upon Salt and other Things, or upon the faid two-t.ird Parts of the additional Excife, or upon the faid additional Impofitions upon feveral Goods and Merchandizes, or upon the faid Duties payable for Vellum, Parchment and Paper, or upon the faid yearly Sum of three hundred thousand Pounds, payable out of the Subfidy of Tonnage and Poundage, or upon the faid Duties charged upon Marriages, Births, Burials, Batchelors and Widowers, or upon the faid continued Impofitions payable for Wines, Vinegar, Tobacco, Eaft India Goods, or other Merchandize imported, or upon the faid Act for continuing certain Acts therein mentioned, and charging Joint Stocks, or upon the faid Duties payable for Low Wines, Spirits and Sweets, or which are or fhall be charged upon the faid weekly Sum of fix thoufand Pounds, iffuing out of the Hereditary and Temporary Excife, or upon the faid weekly Sum of fix hundred Pounds, iffuing out of the Revenue of the Poft Office, and the other fifth Part of each of the faid Subfcriptions fhall be anfwered and made good to the faid Capital Stock of the faid Governor and Company in Bank Bills or Bank Notes, which have fo much Money bona fide refting due thereupon, as the faid one fifth Part of the faid refpective Subfcriptions fhall fully amount to.

XXIV. And be it further enacted, That from and after the faid four and twentieth Day of June, and until fuch Tallies and Orders fo fubfcribed, affigned and brought into the Bank, thall be actually paid off and difcharged, an Intereft of eight Pounds per Centum per Annum shall be allowed and paid for all the Principal which fhall be due upon, or fecured by the faid Tallies or Orders fo fubfcribed, affigned and brought in; and where an Intereft of eight Pounds per Centum per Annum is not already granted by Parliament for the fame, or any of them, there fhall be allowed fo much as will compleat and make up the said Intereft of eight Pounds per Centum per Annum, out of the re(pective Funds and Provifions by this Act granted. • XXV.
