A County of South Wales, bounded on the north by Montgomeryshire; on the east by Shropshire .ind Herefordshire: oa the south and south-nest by Brecknockshire; and on the north-west bv Cardiganshire. It is about 31 miles long, and about 26 broad. It is divided into six hundreds, namely, Colwyn, Kevenlys, Knighton, Paincastle, Radnor, Rhiader. The principal rivers are, the Wye, the Elan, the Aro, the Somvrgil, and the Lug. The market towns are Radnor, Knighton, Presteigne, and Rhnvadergwy. It is in the Province of CanTerbury, in the Diocesl of Lljindaff, and in the Southern Cihciit. It sends two members to parliament, one for the shire, and one fur the borough of New Radnor. Radnorshire is not mountainous, but it is very hilly. The soils are various, from a dark grey loam to reddish brown and deep lonm, and from that to & spungy worthless peat earth. About the vale' of Radnor is some of the best soil of the county,-—and here wheat, barley, oats, rye, and peas, are cultivated. The mountain and waste 'lands of this county comprise about two-thirds of it, but the whole of this extensive tract is pretty good sheepwalk. The arable about one-sixth, and the pasture and woods another sixth. The horned cuttle of Radnorshire are small, of a red colour, and very good. The sheep are very small, very hardv, and excellent meat. The horses are also small, but, like all Welsh horses, active, strong and hardy, 'the county contains ho mines, though lead and copper ore has been discovered in one district of it. The manufactures are coarse woollens, and flannels and stockings, which the labouring people make for their own consumption.
