- counsellor, hath taught him? With whom took he counsel? Who instructed him, and taught him knowledge, and shewed to him the way of understanding?

(a) Where shall wisdom be found, and where is the place of understanding? The depth saith, it is not in me; and the sea saith, It is not with me: it cannot be gotten for gold, neither shall silver be weighed for the price thereof: Whence then cometh wisdom, seeing it is hid from the eyes of all living? God understandeth the way thereof, and he knoweth the place thereof.

(b) Behold, he putteth no trust in his servants; and his angels he chargeth with folly.

(c) The Lord knoweth the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain; for the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God.

(d) There are many devices in a man's heart, nevertheless the counsel of the Lord, that shall stand. For there is no wisdom, nor understanding, nor counsel against the Lord; who taketh the wise in their own craftiness, turneth them backward, and maketh their knowledge foolish.

(e) He respecteth not any that are wise of heart; because the foolishness of God is wiser than men. And he chooseth the foolish things of this world to confound the wise, that no flesh should glory in his presence.

(f) Who hath put wisdom in the inward parts? Or who hath given understanding to the heart?

God giveth wisdom to the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding.

MIS POWER.

(g) Power belongeth unto God. He is Almighty, and can do every thing.

(b) The Lord God Omnipotent reigneth; and in the Lord Jehovah is everlasting strength.

(i) When his word goeth forth out of his mouth, it shall not return unto him void, but it shall accomplish that which he pleaseth; and it shall prosper in the thing whereto he sendeth it. As he hath thought, so shall it come to pass; he hath purposed, so shall it stand; and what his soul desireth, even that he doeth.

and as

(k) He worketh signs and wonders in heaven and in earth; and he calleth those things that be not as though they were. Hów great are his signs, and how mighty are his wonders!

(2) God hath power to help and to cast down: to save and to destroy; and he is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think: For he is strong that executeth his word, and he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.

(m) There is nothing too hard for the Lord.. There is no restraint to the Lord, to save by many or by few, or with them that have no power.

[blocks in formation]

For he saveth not with sword and spear; and his strength is made perfect in weakness.

(2) Hast thou not known? Hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary?

(0) He neither slumbereth nor sleepeth ; neither is his hand waxed short that it cannot save.

(p) Thus saith the Lord thy Redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb; I am the Lord that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself; I, even I am he, and there is no God with me.

(9) He alone doth great wonders. He only doth wondrous things?

(r) The Lord is mighty in strength, excellent in power, who is like unto him?

(s) What God is there in heaven or in earth, that can do according to his works, and according to his might?

(t) Are there any among the vanities of the Gentiles that can cause rain? Or can the heavens give showers? Art not thou he, O Lord our God, who hast made all these things?

() As for our Redeemer, the Lord of hosts is his name. He is the God of forces, mighty to save; and there is no other god that can deliver after this sort.

(w) The Lord will work, and who shall let it? Who will say unto him, what dost thou? He i in one mind, and who can turn him? The Lord hath purposed, and who shall disannul it? His hand is stretched out, and who shall turn it back? Behold, he taketh away, who can hinder him? And who can make that straight which he hath made crooked?

(x) Who is he that saith, and it cometh to pass, when the Lord commandeth not? When he giveth quietness, who then can make trouble? And when he hideth his face, who then can behold him, whether it be done against a nation or against a man only?

(y) Who is ableto stand before him? Who may stand in his sight, when he is once angry? Who hath hardened himself against him, and hath prospered: In his hand is power and might, so that none is able to withstand him; neither is there any that can deliver out of his hand..

(x) The things which are impossible with men are possible with God: For the weakness of God is stronger than men; and those that walk in pride, he is able to abase.

(a) Why then doth thy heart carry thee away, that thou turnest thy spirit against God? Hast thou an arm like God? or canst thou thunder with a voice like him? Can thine heart endure, or can thy hands be strong in the days that he

Deck thyself now with majesty and excellency, and array thyself with glory and beauty: Cast abroad the rage of thy wrath; behold every one that is proud, and bring him low, and tread down the wicked in their place; then will I also confess unto thee, that thine own right hand can save thee.

(b) God giveth strength and power unto his people, and in all Trials and difficulties his grace is sufficient for us.

(c) He giveth power to the faithful, and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.

THE GOODNESS OF GOD.

In general.

(d) The Lord is good, and doth good. (e) He is good to all, and his tender mercies are over all his works.

(f) He is the Lord, which exerciseth lovingkindness. The earth is full of the goodness of the Lord.

(g) God is love. He is the God of peace, the father of mercies, and the God of all comfort and consolation.

(b) The goodness of God endureth continually. (i) There is none good but one, that is God. (k) Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights.
