APPOINTED TO INQUIRE INTO THE

FINANCIAL ARRANGEMENTS AT THE

ADMIRALTY.

4th August 1885.

I HAVE appointed C. Ritchie, Esq., M.P., Sir R. Welby, K.C.B., Secretary of the Treasury, E. MacGregor, Esq., C.B.. and Sir G. FitzGerald, K.C.M.G., to form a Committee to consider what new rules and alterations in the present system of conducting business at the Admiralty are necessary to ensure an effective control over the expenditure of the different departments.

I AM to acquaint you that my Lords have been pleased to appoint a Departmental Committee to consider what new rules and alterations in the present system of conducting business at the Admiralty are necessary to ensure an effective control over the expenditure of the different departments, and I am to request that you will act as a member of this Committee.

Your colleagues in this matter will be

Mr. C. T. Ritchie, M.P. (Chairman), Mr. Evan MacGregor, C.B., and Sir Reginald Welby, K.C.B., Permanent Secretary to the Treasury, with Mr. Main, of your Department, who will act as Secretary.

The first meeting of the Committee will be held in the Board Room of the Admiralty on Friday next, the 7th instant, at 3 o'clock.
