DEAR READER,

If thou art either a lover, a favourer, a follower, or a seeker, of our dear Lord Jefus Chrift, let me counsel thee to attend to the three following things." The

Firft is, to cleanfe thy way by taking heed thereto acording to God's word; which cannot be done but by looking well to thy confcience, and by seeking and praying for a faving application of the atonement, according to God's new covenant promife; I will be merciful to their unrighteoufneffes, and will remember their fins no more; for nothing fhort of the blood of Chrift can make the finner clean touching his confcience. And, if after pardon obtained thou shouldeft, through weakness, or violent temptation, fall into fin, then do as David did, immediately feek pardon and forgiveness, left thou be hardened through the deceitfulness of fin, and fo go from bad to worse, till the backflider in heart be filled with bis own ways.
