Excerpt from History of the Borough of Liskeard and Its Vicinity

While endeavouring to maintain consistency with' my own religious profession, I am sensible that civil society has its lawful, but subordinate and not adverse, claims. In the present attempt to discharge one of these, I have aimed to deal fairly with the several subjects; often quoting of necessity the words of others, and studying throughout to be intelligible to all, and justly offensive to acne. Though desirous to avoid pecuniary. Loss, I have not spared expense; and to promote free circulation, the price charged will barely cover the actual outlay.
