OF

THE PSALMS OF DAVID.

PSALM I.

1 HAPPY the man who loves the Lord
With his whole heart and soul;
God numerous mercies will afford,
For he does all control.

2 He shall be bless'd by God above,
And flourish with success;

In peace, with joy and Christian love,
His God he will address.

3 Nor shall ill company him turn
From off the heav'nly road;

His heart is fix'd God's law to learn,
And close to walk with God.

4 Safe from the wicked God will keep
The good man all his days;
Him guard by angels in his sleep,
Preserving all his ways.

5 Jehovah shall the wicked blast

From touching the true saint;
And them shall punish to the last,
So cause their courage faint.
6 The doings of ungodly men
Known to the Lord are well,
Each cruel-hearted man is then
Condemn'd from God to dwell.

PSALM II.

1 O ALL ye nations of the earth,
And kings that's powerful, join
To serve the Lord with sacred mirth;
All princes close combine.

2 No plots against the Lord succeed,
Or the anointed One;

The Christian loves his law to read,
And trusts in Christ alone.

3 Our Saviour from heaven shall see
His saints, and loves them well;
And those that faithful followers be
Shall ever with him dwell.

4 Messiah God hath anointed

To reign on Sion's hill,

Both king and priest for us appointed, To sit and do his will.

5" I will declare my firm decree," The Lord our God hath said, "Mine only Son I give for thee A ransom to be paid."

6 God said, "Ask of me possession, Earth's utmost bounds I give; Believers of every nation

Shall worship thee and live.

7" Now, therefore, judges of the land,
Ye kings and priests, be wise;
Fear God, with awe before him stand,
And keep his holy ways."

8 Bless ye the Son, lest in his ire
He dash in pieces small;
The Son of holiness adore,
And low before him fall.

9 Him all the nations praise aloud,
And cheerful voices raise;

High swell the note to Jesus' blood, Exalt his name always.

PSALM III.

1 O LORD! how many are my foes
That ill of me yet speak?

Still constantly my heart with woes
Is daily like to break.
