4 Lo! kings who closely are combined,
No strength they in themselves can find;
But, when they're sick and troubled sore,
God is their refuge evermore.

5 Two yards of air do us contain
While our frail bodies here remain;
And a few spans of earth suffice
In death's cold grave to cover us.
6 As ships, with east wind cast away,
Wait for the rising light of day,
So in God's city hope to be,
His rising glory there to see.

7 Within that city God hath laid
The corner-stone and fountain-head.
Arise, my soul! leave time below;
Fly off, and on to Sion go.

8 The earth is full of the Lord's praise,
Most glorious are all his ways;
According to his holy name,
Sing praise melodious unto him.
9 O! Christian daughters, all rejoice,
And utter forth a thankful voice;
For Sion's mount is glad in him
Who did our souls from death redeem.

10 Go round about to Sion's walk,

And of her towers and bulwarks talk;

Her palace-gates remember ye,
There may your souls for ever be.

11 Unto posterity then tell

That God does there for ever dwell;
For evermore he is our God,

His boundless love make known abroad.

PSALM XLIX.

1 MESSIAH is our sovereign King, His gospel does glad tidings bring. O walk in faith by his command, For by his word we fall or stand. 2 Ye high and low, ye rich and poor, All people hearken and give ear: "O hear what wisdom's words can tell, All ye that on the earth do dwell. 3"Be pure in heart, thy God to see, For wisdom's ways most pleasant be; Christ's sayings on the harp declare, Unto his words incline thine ear." 4 When thou a covenant hast signed, And unto God thyself resigned, Why, fearing, doubt in evil days, When sinners have beset thy ways ? 5 Who confidence shall place in wealth, And boast themselves of lasting health; "Whoe'er they are that triumph thus, Health and wealth shall see decrease."

6 None can his brother's soul redeem,
Nor ransom pay to God for him ;
None can by costly gifts bribe God,
Whose judgment fixt, swift flies abroad.
7 Beloved self must be renounced,
Pardon from Christ must be pronounced;
Our soul's redemption precious is;
Jesus alone salvation gives.

8 The wise they die, and fools also,
When dead their wealth to others go;
"For why?-the brutish perish must,
And in corruption turn to dust."

9 Their inward thought is, that their house And lands through ages will increase ; Their family seats shall never fail, And by their name estates they call. 10 In frail presumption man does ride, Then, passing hence, like beasts abide; Such conduct plainly brutish is,In vanity man constant lives.

11 When they in grave are laid, like sheep, Devoured by worms in death they sleep; But upright men, in morning hour, Shall triumph in their turn with power. 12 While in the dust bad men consume, Within the bounds of hell their doom, Miserably their time to spend

For ever,-time without an end.

13 Be not afraid when thou dost see
People grow rich, and high who be
Advanced in pride to high estate,
For human pride the Lord does hate.
14 For nothing can we carry hence
When death's dark vale does up us fence;
Nor shall man's greatness after him
Descend to grave it to proclaim.

15 Though men indulge themselves on earth, While he enjoys his health and breath; When to himself he doeth well,

Man's praise with him shall ever dwell. 16 In knowledge, wanting wisdom's ways, The haughty wretched end their days; They to their Father's race shall go, And there God's light shall never know. 17 But riches of the heavenly grace, "Tis those alone bring perfect peace; Within the kingdom of our Lord, His presence does all joys afford.

PSALM L.

1 ALMIGHTY FATHER, God of all,
Lives on this terrestrial ball;

Who rules the rising of the sun,
From morn till eve keeps rolling on.

2 God all perfection does excel
From out of Sion's holy hill;
A watchful keeper all divine,
Most glorious our God does shine!
3 Messiah will most surely come,
Triumphant is the Holy Lamb;
Silent the thunder shall not be,
And darting lightnings forth shall flee.
4 God from the highest heavens shall call,
To judge on earth his people all;
And from above his grace divine
Shall on his saints with beauty shine.
5 Let all the saints together meet,
And offerings bring to God that's sweet.
A covenant make thou with God,
In sweet agreement with the word.
6 O God! the heavens shall declare
Thy wondrous works how great they are;
The stars thy power and glory show,
Celestial sky with it does glow.

7 The Lord he speaks; O! people hear,
And give his words a willing ear:
""Tis against obstinacy I

The Lord thy God, will testify.

8" The daily offering up of prayer More pleasing than burnt-offerings are; For sacrifices so divine

Through all eternity shall shine.
