7 'Tis Christ is king of holiness,
His promises ne'er fail;

And thee will crown with happiness,
When death removes the veil.

8 The self-denied Christian

Messiah counts his own;
His spirit will the soul sustain
Of his beloved one.

9 Then cast presumptive merit off,
For none is good but God;
All self-right'ousness he will scoff,
And chastise with his rod.

10 'Tis Jesus Christ that will lead us
To God's holy city:

'Tis none but he, the Lord Jesus,
Can show such kind pity.

11 O Lord, do us now reconcile,
And guide thy people forth;
Our armies lead by thy counsel,

And bless them from thy mouth. 12 Do thou our hosts from battle save, For vain is help of man :

Let not our foes send them to grave,
But thou our cause sustain.

13 What victory we have attain❜d,

Thine arm has gain'd the whole; Thou, Lord, alone our battles gain'd, Whose pow'r can works control.

PSALM CIX.

1 0 THOU the glory of my praise,
Eternal God and king,
Thy tender mercies I will raise,
And hymns of glory sing.
2 What mortal eloquence can tell
The greatness of our God?
He all perfection does excel,
In brightest glory clad.

3 At his right hand, enthroned on high,
Is placed the Lamb of God;
Myriads of angels to him nigh,
By whom he is ador❜d.

4 O! then, ye sinful lying lips,

From slander keep your tongues; And take head of your thoughtless steps, For earth to God belongs.

5 Let Satan no dominion have

To lead thy soul astray;

For Jesus Christ thy soul will save

If thou but with him stay.

6 If daily pray❜r thou do not make
Unto the living God,

Nor yet your favourite sins forsake,
Guilt heavy will thee load.

7 In room of saints, if children be
Orphans left in need;

The fatherless great God will see,
And to their aid will speed.

8 And their widows he also will
Protect in their distress;
And all his promises fulfil
Unto their faithfulness.

9 The destitute God will supply,
When sore oppress'd with grief:
For God does hear the right'ous cry,
And will send them relief.

10 But ill-got wealth shall fast decay,
Although by toil amassed:

And speed so fast, and wing away,
Like to a stream that's past.

11 And none to succour him inclined,
Nor yet his children :

No helping hand to them is kind,
Nor friendly to them seem.

12 Vengeance belongs unto the Lord
Through generations all:

All cruel deeds he does record,
They answer for them shall.

13 When they God's secret volume read, Shall see their very name,

In order set for ev'ry deed
That's horrid done by them.

14 Then God shall say, "Depart from me, Ye evil wicked one;

When I was naked thou didst see
My wretchedness alone.

15 " I was hungry, and ye gave me
Neither my meat nor drink;
And panting with thirst before thee,
Nor of my wants didst think.

16" No mercy thou thy brothers show'd, Which is as done to me;

If food thou hadst on them bestow'd,
It was Christ received from thee.

17" Since ye delighted not to bless
With deeds of charity;

Tho' strong in wealth, you did increase

In your iniquity.

18" Since cursing ye as garments took,
So smoothly it went down :
Like oil of pride thy veins partook,
Which sunk into the bone.

19" Array'd in garments such as these
You constantly shall be;

And as a girdle wear always

What Satan bound to thee."

20 But for the spirit of the just,
It perfect is in heav'n ;

Rivers of pleasure they shall taste,
Which there is freely giv❜n.

21 And unto him was crucified

Immortal glory raise;

To him was slain, and for us died,
Sing everlasting praise.

22 O! then, ye sons and daughters here,
Keep on thy heav'nly way,
That undismay'd ye do appear
In realms of endless day.

23 Assist thy saints, Almighty Lord,
In mercy succour them;
Thy tender care to them afford
Thro' all their future time.

24 That they may see thy hand always,1 Appoint to them their lot;

Content with what thy wisdom does
To fix their dwelling spot.

25 Then let thy servants, Lord, rejoice, In thy kind providence,

That they may raise a thankful voice
In conscious innocence.

26 I, with cheerful thanks will praise
Our God who is most high;
And grateful tribute to him raise,
Whose glory fills the sky.

27 I will devote myself to God

With my whole heart and soul,
Extol his mercies far abroad,
And hope in Christ for all.
