GIMEL. THE THIRD PART.

15 ENLIGHTEN me, O Lord, my King,
That thy amazing wonders I,
Who am a pilgrim here, may sing,
Exalting thee, who art most high.
16 Deal bountifully, Lord! with me,
Grant me the favour of thy grace,
That, thro' the love descends from thee,
for ever rest in peace.

I may
17 O! hearken to my just complaints,
Through all the evils I endure;
My soul within me nearly faints,
Do thou my happiness secure.

18 The scornful proud, O Lord! rebuke,
They from thy holy precepts stray ;
They pierce saints thro' with scornful look,
Reproach from pride cast thou away.
19 Lord, far from me contempt remove,
For I thy sacred laws obey;

From shame reproaches turn to love,
Nor lead me in temptation's way.

20 Though princes speak with spite of me,
And against me the world combine,
I'll meditate, my God, on thee,
For yet my innocence shall shine.

21 My comfort and my soul's delight
Are trust in Divine Providence,
Which supports me from morn till night,
Till God appears in my defence.

DALETH.-THE FOURTH PART.

22 My soul, o'erwhelm'd with dread and care, O Lord! it down to dust does cleave; Receive my soul, that I draw near, And joyfully thine aid receive. 23 O! make me thy commandments know, That all my future life to come

I may the wonders of God show, And try his wondrous works to sum. 24 My soul with grief is weigh'd quite down, My heart it melts with heaviness; O Lord! grant me salvation's crown, And promises of happiness.

25 From me the way of lies remove, That I no harm from them may have; But constant to thy laws I prove

Till I descend into the grave.

26 God's perfect way I'll make my choice, That I may taste of heavenly bliss ; And in his glory still rejoice

In mansions of pure holiness.

27 Messiah's merits have full might Our souls for ever to redeem; He fills us with divine delight, Within my heart I'll praise give him. 28 His Gospel-truths I can declare,

Sweet pleasure to my soul they bring; More precious God's sweet precepts are Than riches of an earthly king.

HE. THE FIFTH PART.

29 TEACH me, O Lord! thy holy way,
That I observe it all my life,
And thy divine commands obey,
So keep from hatred and from strife.
30 If understanding thou impart,

I carefully will keep thy way;
My heart shall ne'er from thee depart,
But daily for thy wisdom

pray. 31 Turn thou mine eyes from vanity, And my spirit quicken aright, And fill my heart with sanctity, That in holiness I delight.

32 Confirm to me thy gracious word, Which is the church of God I hear,

That all my future life accord

With one devoted to thy fear.

33 O Lord! reproach turn thou away,
That I no evil tidings hear;

For all thy judgments truth display,
In mercy, Lord, for me appear.

34 Lord! hasten thou with aid to me,

My Saviour, my King, and my Lord; My longing soul still pants for thee, Thy succour to my soul afford.

VAU. THE SIXTH PART.

35 IN kindness visit me, O Lord!
And saving health on me bestow;
Salvation's cup to me afford,

And let thy mercy kindly flow.
36 In God I trust, who can me save,
According to his promised aid;
O! quick may I an answer have
When spiteful foes do me upbraid.

37 Upon Christ's merit I rely,

He is the anchor of my hope;
On wings of faith to him I fly,
Who is my strength, my rock, and
38 To him I'll bend my studies all,

And his most holy precepts learn,
Try constantly to do his will,

God's blessing by his means to earn.

prop.

39 No earthly thing shall me dismay,
Since Zion's King reigns on in might;
Him earnest worship I will pay,
Who is my soul's far best delight.
40 My ravish'd soul with joy does flow,
When I lift up my heart and voice;
In his commandments I will go,
And in his holy name rejoice.

ZAIN. THE SEVENTH PART.

41 ACCORDING to thy gracious word,
O thou, my everlasting Friend!
Make good to me thy favour, Lord!
And to thy servant peace extend.
42 Thy Word gives comfort in distress,
And my afflictions does console;
For in my grief, when straits oppress,
Thy promises revive my soul.

43 The harden'd heart, full stuff'd with pride,

That all my hopes and wishes blast,
From God has not drawn me aside;

Their scornful ways from me I cast.
44 In raptures is my soul with Christ,
In him my corner-stone is laid;
His divine love inspires my breast,
"Tis he alone is chief and head.
