SCHIN. THE TWENTY-FIRST PART.

135 To give immortal praise to thee,

Lord, ever be my constant theme; But friends have persecuted me,

Tho' I sincere have been to them. 136 In awe my heart stands of the Lord, But lies I hate and do abhor; I love to read thy Bible-word, And learn the Lord God to adore. 137 Praise I repeat unto my God, Seven times a day with prayer, Because the judgments of the Lord, T'attend shall be my daily care.

138 Great peace it gives to love thy law, Yea, offences they shall have none; Exceedingly I stand in awe

Of thy commandments ev'ry one. 139 'Tis hope thro' thy salvation beams In ev'ry true believer's soul;

From frowning danger Christ redeems The Christian full of humble zeal. 140 All things are open to his view,

The inmost thought of ev'ry one; O! Christian, then thy life review,— Upon Christ's merit rest alone.

TAU. THE TWENTY-SECOND PART.

141 O LORD, unto my pray'r and cry Do thou now lend a gracious ear; Bring heav'nly understanding nigh, That unto thee I now draw near. 142 Then shall my lips sweet praises give, To thee my tongue shall thanks return, And in thy service I shall live,

With zeal to thee my heart shall burn. 143 Let thy strong arm a helper be,

Thy precepts make my willing choice; Let me, O Lord, salvation see,

That in thy truth I may rejoice!

144 Lord, let my soul taste thy sweet grace,
And it sweet praise shall give to thee,
And let the favour of thy peace
Depart no more away from me.

145 Like to a lost sheep I have been,
O bring thy servant back again;
My errors, Lord, I now have seen,
And thy just statutes will maintain.

146 O lend an ear to my request,

My Lord, my Saviour, and my King; May I with thee have heav'nly rest, And there eternal praises sing.

PSALM CXX.

1 IN deep distress to God I cry,
He unto me gave ear,

And rescued me from them that lie,
That innocence appear.

2 What shall avail thee, thou false tongue?
When God's ire quick shall come,
Remorse of conscience shall prolong
The miseries of thy doom.

3 When wo thou cry'st in misery,
That I should thus be lost;
Then thou shalt call for kind mercy,
Alas! when hope is past.

4 My soul has sojourn'd very long

With those that peace oppose; When I'm for peace, war is their song, Which vengeance shall expose.

5 But I delight to seek sweet peace,
My wishes, Lord, now aid:
The sweetest joys come from thy grace,
When peace with thee is made.

6 O! then, Jehovah, cover me,

With thine eternal wing,

That of my Saviour Christ, and Thee,
Divine hymns I may sing.

PSALM CXXI.

1 UNTO God's hill I'll lift mine eyes,
From whence mine aid does come;
To Zion's God my soul arise,
And anchor in thy home.

2 My guardian angel is the Lord,

Who heav'n and earth hath made Refreshing sleep he will afford, With kind indulgent aid.

[ocr errors]

3 The watchful Shepherd shall me keep,
Nor let my footsteps slide;

He slumbers not, nor does he sleep,
But watches by my side.

4 The Lord shall cover with his wing
His servant night and day;

Light, sun, and moon, does kindly bring Unto his saints alway.

5 The Lord from threatening shall prevent, If thou with faith him serve,

Thy life from civil accident

In health he shall preserve.

6 Thy going out and coming in
Each morning God will bless,
Conducting safe thy soul to heav'n,
In endless happiness.

PSALM CXXII.

1 WITH joy into God's house I went,
Glad tidings there to hear;
My feet unto his gates were bent
Before him to appear.
2 Jerusalem is compactly built,
As God's holy city;

No tribe that lives in sin and guilt
Shares its felicity.

3 But grateful tribes shall thither go,
Thro' time's eternal day,

And cheerful thanks unto God show,
Adoring him alway.

4 Before his throne tribunals stand,
Where justice fair takes place;
All sentenced by divine command,
Taste there Jerusalem's peace.

5 All who love God, the Father, Son,
And God the Holy Ghost,
All who the Christian race have run,
Shall join the heav'nly host.

6 Within the sacred walls of God
No sinner shall be found;
"Tis guiltless innocence' abode,
Where peace shall reign around.
