For corkage allowance to Ship's Stewards in Troop Ships, vide Art. 5, DISTINCTIVE BADGES, Having reference to length of service and good conduct, shall be conferred on persons holding the under-mentioned ratings, for which they will be entitled to an increase of Pay at the rate of one penny per day for each Badge so conferred, viz. : * May receive badges, but not entitled to pay for them, but men serving in the ratings of Master-at-Arms or Ship's Corporal previous to the 15th July 1860, who may receive badges, are entitled to pay. TABLE of the HALF-PAY and RETIRING ALLOWANCES of the under-mentioned Officers of the ROYAL NAVY and ROYAL MARINES. Officers who have elected former Regulations, and old rates of Half-Pay, are referred to former Navy Lists and Admiralty Instructions. Lieutenants may be allowed 58. a day half-pay, if, through illness contracted in the service, they shall have een unable to serve 3 years as above. "JUNIOR SERVICE" allowed to reckon- Sub-Lieut. and Year of 365 One Day. £ s. d. 45 12 6 £ s. d. 096 After 3 years' sea service in that rank, and when unwell or unable to obtain employ-] ment, provided they shall not have declined or avoided service when called upon and provided also that their conduct during service shall have been satisfactory. The period of 3 years' service may be dispensed with in the case of officers invalided for sickness, or injuries contracted in the service, rendering them disqualified for employment NOTE.-For retiring allowances for Sub-Lieutenants, see temporary provisions in paragraphs 7, 8, 9, and 10 of Her Majesty's Order in Council of 5 Feb. 1872. With reference to the above rates of Half-pay, if an officer shall be proved, after the necessary inquiry, to have been negligent of the duties entrusted to him, or to have unfitted himself for further active employment, the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty reserve to themselves the power to place him on the lowest or any intermediate rate, or on such an amount below the minimum rate, of Half-pay as they may deem proper.(Vide Orders in Council 26th Oct. 1860, and 7th Jan. 1804.) RETIRED PAY. 1. The Scale of Retired Pay, according to age and service, to be as follows, for Flag Officers, Captains, Commanders, and Lieutenants. An addition to be made, as specified, for each full year of additional Sea Service, or its equivalent, but the same not to exceed 5 years; and a deduction to be made for each full year wanting to complete the periods specified, but the same not to exceed 10 years : 2. No Retired Flag Officer to be allowed to receive in respect of Retired Pay and Good Service Pension an amount exceeding the half-pay of an Admiral of the Fleet. 3. A Captain retired from that rank to receive in Retired Pay, together with Good Service Pension, a sum not exceeding 6007.; but should the two together exceed that amount, he will be retired on 600l. a year, relinquishing his Good Service Pension. 4. The Pay of Commanders and Lieutenants, retired from those ranks, not to exceed 4007. and 3001, a year respectively. 5. After retirement, no increase of pay to be allowed to any Officer. The only addition possible will be in the form of Pension. 6. No Officer to rise more than one step in rank at or after retirement. 7. All service as Sub-Lieutenant and Acting Sub-Lieutenant to reckon for increase of retired pay. 8. Power to be reserved to Us to suspend at any time, and with respect to any rank, the provisions of the Order under which an Officer may, at his option, retire at an age less than that fixed for compulsory retirement in each rank. 9. The power vested in Us to grant lower rates of half-pay in cases of misconduct, to be extended to retired pay. 10. Retirement from the Active List not to disqualify any Officer for employment at or under the Admiralty. 11. Officers to be allowed, at their own request, and with Our consent, to compound their retired pay under the Rules laid down by Her Majesty's Treasury for administering Act 32&33 Vict., cap. 32. |
