For the first time, all the Sesotho names for plants and animals are included in one volume which also accurately records all the plants that are known to be used by the Basotho for food, medicine and traditional practices, together with their correct botanical identities. About the author (2010)

After an initial career in forestry, Rodney Moffett studied botany at Stellenbosch University, obtaining his PhD in taxonomy with a study of the genus˙Rhus˙(now˙Searsia). In 1986 he joined the Qwaqwa Branch of the University of the North, where he lectured in the Botany Department and served two terms as Dean of Science. He retired in 2000 as Professor of Botany. Since then he has returned twice to teach at the campus (now part of the University of the Free State) and is currently an honorary research associate in the Department of Plant Sciences of UFS.
