A Displaced PersonThis two-part book is a true-life account of endurance and survival. It recalls events that occurred in the middle of the 20th century, yet are still relatively unknown. The first part deals with all the uncommon vicissitudes of the first ten years of the author's 'stolen' childhood: deportation to Siberia, a trail through hostile lands, disease and poverty, from war-torn Poland to a safe haven in Egypt. The second part illustrates the problems of adolescent years as a foreigner and refugee in a strange society. The joys and sorrows of a young girl trying to meet the challenges of harsh conditions, post -war rationing and adapting to life in England. |
