A. The covenant of grace was not always adminiftred after the fame manner, but the administrations of it under the Old Teftament were different from thofe under the New e.

Q. 34. How was the covenant of grace adminiftred under the Old Teftament?

A. The covenant of grace was adminiftred under the Old Teftament, by promises f, prophecies g, facrifices h, circumcifioni, the paffover k, and other types and ordinances; which did all forefignify Chrift then to come, and were for that time fufficient to build up the elect in faith in the promised Meffiah, by whom they then had full remiffion of fin and cternal

to themselves, but unto him who died for them, and rofe again.

d Eph. ii. 10. For we are his workmanship, created in Chrift Jefus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

33.2 Cor. iii. 6. Who alfo hath made us able minifters of the new teftament, not of the letter, but of the fpirit: for the letter killeth, but the fpirit giveth life. v. 7. But if the ministration of death written and engraven in ftones, was glorious, fo that the children of Ifrael could not itedfaftly behold the face of Mofes, for the glory of his countenance, which glory was to be done away. v. 8. Q. 35. How is the covenant of grace adminiftred under the New Testament?

A. Under the New Teftament, when Chrift the substance was exhibited, the fame covenant of grace was and still is to be administred in the preaching of the word n, and the admini ftration of the facraments of baptifmo, and the Lord's fupperp; in which grace and falvation are held forth in more fulness, evidence and efficacy to all nations q.

Heb. xi. 13. These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having feen them afar of, and were perfwaded of them, and embraced them, and confeffed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. m Gal. iii. 7. Know ye therefore that they who are of faith, the fame are the children of Abraham. v. 8. And the fcripture foreseeing that God would justify the heathen thro' faith, preached before the gofpel unto Abraham, faying, In thee fhall all nations be bleffed. v. 9. So then they who be of faith, are blessed with faithful Abraham, v. 14. That the bleffing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles thro' Jefus Chrift, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

The only Mediator of the covenant of grace is, the Lord Jesus Christr, who being the eternal Son of God, of one fubftance and equal with the Father in the fulness of time became mant, and fo was and continues to be God and man in two entire diftinct natures, and one perfon for ever v.
