A SERMO N.

JER. XXIII. 5, 6.

Behold the days come, saith the Lord, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a king shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth. In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, The Lord our Righteousness.

On this particular Sunday, we hear the voice of the Church calling us to turn our faces towards the city of David, and to look with the eye of expectant faith to the coming of the Lord in the flesh. That event, indeed, is already past to us. We have seen that day, which prophets and saints of old desired to see, and for which they patiently waited. Year after year, we have listened to the message of the angel of the Lord bringing the good tidings of great joy to all people; Unto you is born this day in "the city of David, a Saviour, which is Christ the "Lord."
