Professor of Mechanism for the Use of Invalids and Sick Persons, HAVING, during the course of more than Twenty Years' practice in the general application of his profession, found it almost impossible to construct any one standard Invention to suit all Cases, and sometimes even the same Case in different persons, or any set of Inventions, of which they have a variety, ad infinitum, to meet the feelings, views, and opinions of all; and having frequently observed in the course of his practice, owing to want of sufficient intercourse with Invalids to obtain a clear knowledge of their requirements, and consequently, correct thought and study upon the subject, some misfitting and misapplications, and also owing to deficiency of experience in the attendants, many very partial reliefs. to suffering Invalids whose inconveniences might have been wholly removed,

Most respectfully announces, as the result of long experience, to become essentially useful to the afflicted, he finds it absolutely necessary to enter more particularly into, and study individual Cases, to which he now devotes a considerable portion of his time; and therefore to obviate the inconveniences above enumerated, he proposes to advise with the persons themselves who require EASY BEDS, CHAIRS, and SOFAS; and with the Invalids and Sick Persons that require to be ASSISTED, RELIEVED, or REMOVED by Mechanical Powers, and consult themselves upon the object to be obtained, and then study the best possible means of obtaining it-- Superintend the manufacturing under their own immediate direction in progress, and when the assisting Machine is prepared, attend and assist in the practical operation, until those about them become initiated into and properly understand the Operative and Practical use as connected with the particular feelings and requirements of the Invalid.

Mr. Pocock is consulted personally, or by Letter from the Country, where he will attend when necessary; but a discerning Public will see the Cases cannot be entered upon, or studied, unless the Letter contain the Consultation Fee, the same as in personal attendance. SOUTHAMPTON HOUSE,

Testimonies to the Character of this Work.

"We have not often perused a work, to which we could give more unqualified approbation."-London. Med. and Phys. Journal, Oct. 1819. "The Tract now before us, we have perused with no inconsiderable pleasure and interest." The experiments are exceedingly well conducted, and satisfactory."-London Med. Repository, Oct. 1819.

"The Work before us, is the improved publication of a manuscript Essay on the Subject, which gained a prize, offered by Sir ASTLEY COOPER, for the best Dissertation on the Blood. This, of itself, is a strong recommendation; but the work contains more intrinsic proofs of merit, than any medal can bestow.

"Mr. THACKRAH's Work, as our readers must perceive, is by far the best which we have on the subject, and entitles its author to the thanks and esteem of his professional brethren."-Johnson's MedicoChirurgical Journal, 1819.

"The precision with which the author's experiments are conducted, on the point particularly of the blood's coagulation, are deserving of much praise. Indeed, we consider the Tract altogether as highly meritorious, and worthy the attention of both Physiologist and Physician."Monthly Magazine, Sept. 1819.
