The text of this edition is that finally revised by James Thomson and put
out in 1746. The poet spent so many years on the correction and revision
of his work that it has been judged right to follow the text even in its
apparent inconsistencies and oddities. Only in the three cases following,
where an obvious printers' error mars the sense, has any alteration been
made: page 19, line 27, the original reads "Of blossom'd Beams" instead
of "Of blossom'd Beans"; on page 118, line 27, "Oh it ills befits" has been
changed to "Oh it ill befits," and on page 138, line 21, “Book” to “Brook.”
