Praise

Praise is the employment of heaven. has been the employment of the righteous, in all ages; and if mankind in general appreciated truly the blessings of the Almighty, methinks that praise and thanksgiving would be more the employment of the inhabitants of the earth than they are at present; for man has nothing but what he receives from God. He at first gave him life; and ever since that life was given, the same Almighty Being has supplied him with food and all other blessings. The Apostle says, in one of the verses which I have read to-day, "Of him, and through him, and to him, are all things." The Psalmist says, Thou openest thine hand, and satisfiest the desire of every living thing." That God is man's greatest benefactor, is clear both from revelation and daily observation. Should not this consideration call forth much gratitude on man's part? No person can deny it. Am I then, as one individual, putting a right value upon

God's favours?

Am I thankful for my creation, preservation, and all the blessings of this life? Do I feel that gratitude to God which the Psalmist did, when he said, "Bless the Lord, all his works, in all places of his dominion: bless the Lord, O my soul?" If I have a grateful heart, let me be thankful for it, and cherish it. If I have not been so thankful as I ought to have been, let me pray to God for forgiveness, and begin now to acknowledge my obligations to Him, and declare the wonders that He doeth for all the children of

men.

Autumnal gales now sweep the plain,
And strew the fruit about;

They dry the corn, and please the swain;
With joy they make him shout.
Man should give thanks to God alone,
Who dwells in peace above:

I will adore the Holy One,

Through whom I live and move.
