Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong. 1 Cor. xvi. 13.

Contemplate the blessings that will accrue to you, if wait on the Lord and keep his way.

Pray that you may accomplish those things that he would have you to do.

APRIL 8. Blessed is the man whom thou chastenest, O Lord, and teachest him out of thy law. Psalm xciv. 12.

Whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and Scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. xii. 6.

Meditate on afflictions, which are a token of God's love, &c.

Pray for support under your afflictions, &c.

APRIL 9. He was cut off out of the land of the living for the transgression of my people was he stricken. Isaiah liii. 8.

And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called The place of a skull, which is called in Hebrew Golgotha: Where they crucified him, and two other with him, on either side one, and Jesus in the midst John xix. 17, 18

Reflect on the fulfilment of prophecy, &c.

Pray for faith in the crucified Saviour, whose death was so clearly predicted, &c.

APRIL 10. They shall hang upon him all the glory of his Father's house. Isaiah xxii. 24.

I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, and be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith: That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; if by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead. Phil. iii. 8, 9, 10, 11.

Consider how worthless and insignificant all earthly objects were, in St. Paul's estimation, when compared with the knowledge of Christ, &c. Pray that you may know him, and the power of his resurrection.

APRIL 11. If a man die, shall he live again? Job xiv. 14.

As in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. 1 Cor. xv. 22.

Reflect on man's fall and restoration.

Pray that you may be restored to the favour of God, by the obedience of Christ, &c.

APRIL 12. Ye shall keep the sabbath therefore; for it is holy unto you. Exodus xxxi. 14. The sabbath was made for man. Mark ii. 27.

Meditate on the use and benefit of the sabbath, &c.

Pray that you may keep it holy, &c.

APRIL 13. Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart : wait, I say, on the Lord. Psalm xxvii. 14.

Continuing instant in prayer.

Rom. xii. 12.

Consider the importance of prayer, &c.
Pray, and faint not.

APRIL 14. I have blotted out, as a thick cloud, thy transgressions, and, as a cloud, thy sins: return unto me, for I have redeemed thee.

xliv. 22.

Isaiah

And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more. Heb. x. 17.

Reflect on God's goodness and mercy.

Pray, to him with a grateful heart, &c.

APRIL 15. Teach me to do thy will; for thou art my God: thy spirit is good; lead me into the land of uprightness. Quicken me, O Lord, for thy name's sake for thy righteousness' sake bring my soul out of trouble. Psalm cxliii. 10, 11.

It is the Spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you. they are spirit, and they are life. John vi. 63.

Meditate on the office of God's holy Spirit, &c. Pray for its quickening influences, &c.

APRIL 16. Divers weights, and divers measures, both of them are alike abomination to the Lord. Prov. xx. 10.

Defraud not. Mark x. 19.

Consider how hateful dishonest actions are in the sight of God, &c.

Pray that you may be just and true in all your dealings, &c.

APRIL 17. And he stood between the dead and the living; and the plague was stayed. Num.

xvi. 48.

If any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: and he is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. 1 John ii.

Meditate on the necessity of having a Mediator. Pray to Jesus Christ, who is the only advocate with the Father, to plead your cause, &c.

APRIL 18. Consider and hear me, O Lord, my

God: lighten mine eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death. Psalm xiii. 3.

He that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile. 1 Peter iii. 10.

Consider how desirable it is to refrain the tongue and lips, from uttering perverse things. Pray to God, to set a watch before your mouth, and to keep the door of your lips.

APRIL 19. The Lord redeemeth the soul of his servants and none of them that trust in him shall be desolate. Psalm xxxiv. 22.

:

If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. Rom. x. 9.

Observe here, the way of salvation, &c.

Pray for faith in the Saviour, through whose merits alone you can be saved, &c.

APRIL 20. I know that my Redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God: Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another. Job xix. 25, 26, 27.

Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and
