About the author (2000)

Martyn Bramwell was chief meteorologist and deputy base commander at the Fossil Bluff and Adelaide Island bases in Antarctica. He has written more than forty books, including Dorling Kindersley's Polar Exploration, in the DK Discoveries series, and Earth, an Eyewitness Visual Dictionary. He is an author on environmental issues, conservation, science, and technology. Martyn Bramwell has also consulted for the United Nations Food & Agricultural Organization (UNFAO), and the UN Environment Program (UNEP). Catriona Lewis's background is in agriculture and resource management. She specializes in agricultural education and communications.
