Children's Duties.

When the storm is howling

Through the midnight air,
Fearfully its thunder

Tells us, "God is there."

All the wide world's treasures,
Rich, or grand, or fair,

In each feature beareth

Graven, “God is there.

CHILDREN'S DUTIES.

"See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, redeeming the time."-EPH. V. 15, 16.

CHRISTIAN children must be holy,

Serving God from day to day;

Never is the time too early
For a Christian to obey.

He who is our great example,
Let no moments go to loss;
Not one precious hour He wasted,
From the cradle to the cross.

Soon he sorrowed, soon he suffered,-
We must meek and holy be,

Little pain and childish sorrow

Ever bearing patiently.

THE HAPPY LAND.

In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told I go to prepare a place for you."-JOHN Xiv, 2.

THERE is a happy land,

Far, far away,

Where saints in glory stand,

Bright, bright as day.

Oh! how they sweetly sing,
Worthy is our Saviour King;
Loud let His praises ring-
Praise, praise for aye.

Come to this happy land,

Come, come away;

Why will ye doubting stand ?—

Why still delay ?

Oh! we shall happy be,

When from sin and sorrow free,

Lord, we shall live with Thee,

Blest, blest for aye!

Bright in that happy land

Beams every eye—

Kept by a Father's hand,

Love cannot die.

On then to glory run;

Be crown and kingdom won;

And bright above the sun

We reign for aye.

THROUGH the trees the wind is sighing, While the leaves are falling, dying;

As it sighs it seems to say,

"Thou must fade as well as they."

Our Example.

Autumn, with its tints so mellow,
Painting woodlands red and yellow,
In its beauty and decay,

Tells that all things pass away.

Winter soon will have in keeping
Hidden buds and flowers sleeping;
Oh! how deep is their repose,
Till the Spring their eyes unclose.

See the Autumn sunset glowing,
Parting smiles on all bestowing;
At the close of life how blest
Thus to smile-then sink to rest!

OUR EXAMPLE.

"I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you."JOHN Xiii. 15.

JESUS CHRIST, my Lord and Saviour,

Once became a child like me:

O that in my whole behaviour

He my pattern still may be !

Christmas Hymn.

All my nature is unholy;

Pride and passion dwell within ;
But the Lord was meek and lowly,
And was never known to sin.

I am often vainly trying

Some new pleasure to possess:
He was always self-denying,

Patient in His worst distress.

Lord, assist a feeble creature,

Guide me by Thy word of truth ;

Condescend to be my Teacher

Through my childhood and my youth.

CHRISTMAS HYMN,

"The glory of the Lord shone round about them."-LUKE ii. 9.

How joyful was the day

When Christ appeared on earth!

Angels and men together join

To hail the Saviour's birth.

How kindly He became

A little child like me!

A child of poor and lowly name
The Saviour deigned to be.
