LORD, I will bless thee all my days;
Thy praise shall dwell upon my tongue;
My soul shall glory in thy grace,
While saints rejoice to hear the song.

Come, magnify the Lord with me;
Come, let us all exalt his name;
I sought th' eternal God, and he
Has not exposed my hope to shame.

I told him all my secret grief;
My secret groaning reached his ears;
He gave my inward pains relief,
And calmed the tumult of my fears.

His holy angels pitch their tents
Around the men who serve the Lord;
O, fear and love him, all ye saints,
Taste of his grace, and trust his word.

83

WITH all my powers of heart and tongue,
I'll praise my Maker in my song;
Angels shall hear the notes I raise,
Approve the song, and join the praise.

To God I cried, when troubles rose;
He heard me, and subdued my foes;
He did my rising fears control,

Amid a thousand snares I stand,
Upheld and guarded by thy hand;
Thy words my fainting soul revive,
And keep my dying faith alive.

Grace will complete what grace begins,
To save from sorrows or from sins;
The work that wisdom undertakes,
Eternal mercy ne'er forsakes.

84

BLESS, O my soul, the living God;
Call home thy thoughts, that rove abroad;
Let all the powers within me join
In work and worship so divine.

Bless, O my soul, the God of grace;
His favors claim thy highest praise;
Let not the wonders he hath wrought
Be lost in silence, and forgot.

To die for crimes which thou hast done:
'Tis he, my soul, that sent his Son
He owns the ransom, and forgives
The hourly follies of our lives.

Let every land his power confess ;
Let all the earth adore his grace;
My heart and tongue, with rapture, join

And strength diffused through all my soul. In work and worship so divine.

GREAT God, in vain man's narrow view Attempts to look thy nature through; Our laboring powers with reverence own Thy glories never can be known.

Not the high seraph's mighty thought,
Who countless years his God has sought,
Such wondrous height or depth can find,
Or fully trace thy boundless mind.

Yet, Lord, thy kindness deigns to show
All that we mortals need to know;
While wisdom, goodness, power divine,
Through all thy works and conduct shine.

O, may our souls with rapture trace
Thy works of nature and of grace,
Adore thy sacred name, and still
Press on to know and do thy will.

My dear Redeemer, and my Lord,
I read my duty in thy word;
But in thy life the law appears,
Drawn out in living characters.

Such was thy truth, and such thy zeal, Such deference to thy Father's will, Such love, and meekness so divine,

I would transcribe and make them mine.

your verse.

Cold mountains and the midnight air Witnessed the fervor of thy prayer; The desert thy temptations knew, Thy conflict and thy victory too.

Be thou my pattern; make me bear
More of thy gracious image here;
Then God, the Judge, shall own my name
Amongst the followers of the Lamb.

THINE earthly Sabbaths, Lord, we love;
But there's a nobler rest above;

To that our longing souls aspire,
With earnest hope and strong desire.

No more fatigue, no more distress,
Nor sin nor death shall reach the place;
No groans to mingle with the songs
Which warble from immortal tongues.

No rude alarms of raging foes;
No cares to break the long repose;
No midnight shade, no clouded sun,
But sacred, high, eternal noon.

O long-expected day, begin!

Dawn on these realms of woe and sin ; Fain would we leave this weary road, And sleep in death, to rest with God.
