Manitoba Education and Training, 2001 - Butlers
"Hopkins stars as Stevens, a dedicated English butler to Lord Darlington ... Thompson stars as the estate housekeeper, a high-spirited, strong minded young woman who watches the goings-on upstairs with horror. Despite her apprehensions, she and Stevens gradually fall in love, though neither will admit it, and only give vent to their charged feelings via fierce arguments." [box cover note].

Poignant and moving story of an aging English butler reflecting on his career and life. Writing in a very conversational style, Ishiguro draws the reader in quickly and, despite the rather dry subject matter, creates a page-turner of the highest order. Highly recommended. Read full review
