do this, and to confine attention for the present to this particular point, inasmuch as the evidence in this case is so very distinct and decisive, that, if I carry my readers with me here, I shall have, in effect, accomplished my main object in these criticisms, and cleared the way, at all events, for an intelligent and unbiassed examination of the whole question.
