COMMUNION; OR CONVERSATIONS ON PREPARATION FOR THE LORD'S SUPPER. BY FRANCES S. PARKER, AUTHOR OF TRUTH WITHOUT NOVELTY, ETC. "This do in remembrance of me."-Luke xxii. 19. "Plead thou-Oh plead my cause! Each self-excusing plea My trembling soul withdraws And flies to thee. Where justice rears her throne. Ah who, save thee alone May stand, oh, spotless one! Plead thou my cause."-M. S. Waring. READING: E. BLACKWELL, LONDON-STREET. LONDON: HAMILTON, ADAMS AND CO. PATERNOSTER ROW. MDCCCXXXIX. SUNDAY. INTRODUCTION. "Take heed unto yourselves, lest ye forget the covenant of the Lord your God." Deut. iv. 23. It was the evening of the Sabbath; and it was a bright, and beautiful evening. A perfect calm had succeeded the late boisterous gales, so that the waves gently rippled to the shore, and broke in a scarce perceptible murmur. The moon sailed across the heavens in unsullied majesty, leaving a train of glorious light on the world of waters below. How often have I gazed on that silvery pathway in the deep, and compared it to the peaceful path of the just, "which shineth more and more "unto the perfect day.". How often have I wished that my spiritual course might be thus peaceful and serene, and my Saviour's image be reflected there, as the moon upon the liquid wave. B |
